What you get

Launched in 2019, Bangla Shasya Bima is a wholly state-funded crop insurance scheme that covers farmers of West Bengal at zero premium cost to the farmer — the state government pays the full insurance premium on the farmer's behalf. The scheme covers major Kharif and Rabi crops including paddy, jute and maize, and protects against losses across the crop cycle: prevented sowing, failed sowing, mid-season adversity, and post-harvest/harvesting losses, with claim amounts calculated per hectare and paid out in up to four stages depending on the type of loss. Both farmers who have taken agricultural loans and those who have not are eligible to enrol, and the scheme is positioned as ensuring fast, transparent claim settlement compared to the earlier central crop insurance scheme it replaced in the state.
