What you get
Launched on 21 January 2020 to replace the earlier Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Jivan Bima Yojana, this scheme provides financial assistance of up to Rs 5 lakh to the family of a farmer who dies, or compensation on a graded scale for permanent/partial disability, due to an accident — including accidents while working in the field, not just road accidents. Coverage applies to farmers and their family members (including Bataidars, i.e. sharecroppers who cultivate others' land) aged 18 to 70 years who are permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh. If the family already receives a payout from PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana or PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, the state tops up the difference so the total reaches Rs 5 lakh. Applications must be filed within 45 days of the accident (extendable by the District Collector by up to 30 more days; claims after 75 days are not considered).
