What you get
Under the Chief Minister's Scheme of Solar Powered Pump Sets, farmers in Tamil Nadu can install solar pump sets of 5 HP to 10 HP capacity with subsidy support covering up to 90% of the unit cost, funded jointly through state government contribution (40%), central government share (20%), TANGEDCO contribution (30%), with the farmer paying only the remaining 10%. The scheme reduces farmers' dependence on grid electricity (and associated outages/cost) for irrigation pump operation, while supporting climate-friendly renewable energy adoption in agriculture, implemented in coordination with the Agricultural Engineering Department and Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO).
Eligibility criteria
- Must be a farmer in Tamil Nadu with a well/borewell suitable for pump installation
- Land/farm should have an existing irrigation source needing a pump
- Application processed jointly with TANGEDCO for grid-feasibility assessment
