These units capture and store rainwater runoff, providing a reliable supplemental irrigation source for fruit orchards, vegetable plots, and other horticultural crops during dry spells, directly improving yield stability and reducing crop-failure risk tied to erratic rainfall patterns common in the hill districts.

Eligibility criteria

• Must be a horticulture farmer with land suitable for a water harvesting structure as assessed by the department
• Priority given to areas identified as water-stressed for horticultural crops
