What you get
Maharashtra implements the central Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) crop insurance scheme with a state-subsidised premium structure that keeps farmer contributions extremely low: 2% of the sum insured for Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi crops, and 5% for annual commercial/horticultural crops, with the state and central governments jointly subsidising the balance premium paid to the insurance company. From the 2025-26 season, the state made PMFBY enrolment effectively linked to MahaDBT subsidy beneficiary status for several input schemes, encouraging wider risk coverage uptake. The scheme compensates farmers for yield losses due to natural calamities, pests and diseases, and also covers post-harvest losses and localised risks like hailstorm and landslide for notified crops.
