What you get
Kerala has run state-level crop insurance initiatives since the early 1990s (including the State Insurance Scheme of Kerala, 1995), evolving from the earlier central Comprehensive Crop Insurance Scheme (CCIS, 1985-1999) and National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS, from Rabi 1999). The current state crop insurance arrangement, administered through the AIMS portal, specifically covers crops and risks not fully addressed by central schemes — including pest-attack losses for tapioca, natural-calamity losses for banana crops across all districts, and losses to punja (second-crop) paddy specifically in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts. This fills a critical gap for Kerala's distinctive cropping pattern, which centres on perennial and semi-perennial crops not always well-served by national crop insurance products designed for grain crops.
