What you get

This is Jharkhand's state-level implementation and co-funding arrangement for the central Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) crop insurance scheme, branded locally after Birsa Munda. The state government allocated ₹350 crore in the 2025-26 budget to subsidise farmer premiums and ensure timely compensation payouts for crop losses due to drought, excess rainfall, flood, hailstorm, and pest/disease outbreaks declared as notified perils. Farmers pay a nominal premium share (as low as 1.5–2% of sum insured for food/oilseed crops under the PMFBY framework) with the rest subsidised by central and state governments jointly.

Eligibility criteria

  • Farmer (owner or tenant/sharecropper with valid documentation) growing a notified crop in a notified area of Jharkhand
  • Enrollment must be completed before the cut-off date for the relevant cropping season
  • Loanee farmers are auto-enrolled via their KCC/crop loan; non-loanee farmers can enrol voluntarily

How to apply

  1. 1

Enrol through your bank (if you have a Kisan Credit Card/crop loan) or via the PMFBY portal/Common Service Centre

  3. 3
