Why it matters

Farmers who switch part of their paddy land to less water-hungry crops like maize, pulses, or vegetables get a per-acre cash incentive, helping protect groundwater for the future.

What you get

Mera Pani Meri Virasat Yojana ("My Water, My Legacy") incentivises farmers to diversify away from water-intensive paddy cultivation in groundwater-stressed blocks of Haryana. Farmers who shift at least 50% of their previous paddy area to alternative crops such as maize, pigeon pea (arhar), moong, urad, sesame, cotton, or vegetables receive a per-acre incentive (raised to Rs 8,000 per acre in the 2025-26 budget for general alternative crops, with Rs 7,000 per acre plus horticulture-department grants for fruit/vegetable diversification). The scheme also supports micro-irrigation subsidy and crop-insurance premium coverage for diversified plots, and the state commits to procuring the diversified crop at MSP.

Eligibility criteria

• Must be a farmer registered on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal
• Must shift at least 50% of the previous season's paddy area to a notified alternative crop
• Diversified area and crop must be verified through the portal/field verification
• Land must be located in a block covered under the scheme's crop-diversification drive

How to apply

   Register your land and previous paddy area on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal

   Sow a notified alternative crop on at least 50% of your previous paddy area

   Incentive amount is credited to your bank account after the procurement/marketing season, along with eligibility for micro-irrigation subsidy and insurance premium support
