The state operates notified Government Cocoon Markets (including a long-established market and one at Thrimulgherry, Secunderabad), set up with assistance from the Central Silk Board and state funding, where sericulture farmers can sell mulberry cocoons through transparent price discovery without having to transport produce long distances or sell through unregulated middlemen — addressing a key market-access gap for this otherwise high-potential rural enterprise.

Eligibility criteria

• Must be a farmer engaged in mulberry cultivation and/or silkworm rearing (sericulture) in Telangana
• Access to notified Government Cocoon Markets open to registered sericulture farmers in the catchment area
• Technical support/training available through the Department of Sericulture for new entrants
