What you get
Under the early phase (2003 onward) of Sikkim's organic transition, the state implemented a bio-village programme training farmer clusters in producing their own organic inputs — including composting techniques, vermicompost, farmyard manure enrichment, and locally-made bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides from indigenous plant and microbial sources. This hands-on, village-level capacity-building approach reduced farmers' reliance on costly external inputs while building the practical skill base that allowed Sikkim to scale up to full organic status statewide by 2015-16. The programme continues to anchor input self-sufficiency training for new and converting organic farmers through Krishi Vigyan Kendras and block-level agriculture extension staff.
