What you get
SMAM is implemented in Nagaland to raise mechanization levels on terraced and hill farms where large tractors are often impractical. Eligible farmers receive subsidy (typically 40-50% of cost, with enhanced rates for small/marginal, women and SC/ST farmers) on power tillers, mini tillers, pump sets, sprayers and other hill-appropriate equipment. The scheme also establishes Custom Hiring Centres at the village or cluster level — financed 100% by the Government of India for North-Eastern states — letting farmers who cannot afford to buy machinery rent it affordably for land preparation, weeding and harvesting.
