What you get
SMAM is implemented in Mizoram to raise the very low level of farm mechanization typical of hill agriculture. Individual farmers can receive subsidy (typically 40-50% of machine cost, higher for SC/ST, women and small/marginal farmers) on power tillers, tillers, pump sets, sprayers and other small farm equipment suited to terraced and hill terrain. The scheme also funds Custom Hiring Centres (CHCs) at the village or cluster level, which let farmers who cannot afford to own machinery rent it for ploughing, weeding and harvesting at affordable rates, financed 100% by Government of India for the North-Eastern states.
