About this Scheme

PMFBY was launched in 2016 to replace fragmented crop insurance schemes. The scheme fixed the farmer's premium contribution at a maximum of 2% for Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi crops, and 5% for annual horticultural crops — the rest is borne by Central and State governments equally.

To provide financial support to farmers suffering crop loss or damage due to unforeseen events including natural calamities, pests, and diseases.

What You Get

Compensation up to the full Sum Insured for loss due to prevented sowing, standing crop damage, post-harvest losses within 14 days, and localized calamities. Farmer premium is capped at 2% (Kharif) / 1.5% (Rabi) / 5% (horticulture). Average benefit per claim: ₹17,000–₹40,000 depending on crop and state.

Important before applying

Enrolment must happen BEFORE the crop is sown — late enrolment is not permitted. The scheme is voluntary for non-loanee farmers but compulsory for farmers who have taken KCC loans for notified crops.
