PMKSY — Per Drop More Crop (Micro Irrigation)
Ministry of Jal Shakti / Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare
Implementing agency: National Water Mission; State Agriculture Departments
Key Benefit
Up to 55% subsidy
About this Scheme
India uses 80% of its fresh water for agriculture, yet 60% is wasted through flood irrigation. PMKSY Per Drop More Crop was launched to systematically replace this waste with drip and sprinkler irrigation systems that deliver water directly to plant roots.
To expand coverage of micro-irrigation to bring more farms under water-use-efficient irrigation, increase crop productivity per litre of water used.
What You Get
Small and Marginal farmers (≤2 acres): 55% subsidy on drip or sprinkler system. Other farmers: 45% subsidy. A complete drip irrigation system for 1 acre typically costs ₹40,000–₹60,000; after 55% subsidy the farmer pays ₹18,000–₹27,000. Field studies show 30–50% water saving and 20–40% yield increase.
Important before applying
Application must be made BEFORE purchasing the system — post-purchase applications are not eligible. The system must be purchased from empanelled vendors listed on the state agriculture portal.
