About this Scheme
PM-KUSUM was conceptualised to solve two problems: Indian farmers' dependence on expensive diesel pumps (over 30 lakh diesel pumps in use), and financial stress caused by erratic grid electricity for agriculture. It has three components: standalone solar pumps for individual farmers (Component B) being the most relevant.
To provide energy security to farmers by replacing diesel and grid-dependent pumps with solar-powered pumps, reducing irrigation costs, and enabling farmers to earn additional income by selling surplus solar power.
What You Get
Under Component B (standalone solar pumps): Central Government 30% + State Government 30% = 60% total subsidy. The farmer pays only 40%. Banks provide loans for the farmer's 40% share. Over 10 years, the farmer saves ₹50,000–₹1,00,000 annually compared to diesel costs.
Important before applying
The subsidy structure varies significantly by state. Some states offer additional top-ups taking farmer contribution below 20%. Applications are processed on a first-come-first-served basis within annual targets. Apply early (typically October–December).
