Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare
Implementing agency: National Horticulture Mission (NHM) through State Horticulture Departments
Key Benefit
Up to 50% subsidy
About this Scheme
The National Horticulture Mission (now part of MIDH) was originally created in 2005 to address a paradox: India is the world's second-largest producer of fruits and vegetables, yet horticulture farmers remain among the poorest because of post-harvest losses (30–40% of produce), lack of cold storage, and no market price discovery.
To promote holistic growth of horticulture sector, including fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, spices, flowers, and plantation crops, through area expansion, productivity enhancement, post-harvest management, and marketing development.
What You Get
New plantation (fruits): 50% cost subsidy up to ₹1,00,000/ha in 3 years. Protected cultivation (polyhouse/shade net): 50% subsidy up to ₹710/sq.m. Pack houses: 35% subsidy up to ₹3.50 lakh. Cold storage: 35% of project cost up to ₹2.10 crore. Mushroom cultivation: 50% subsidy on spawn production units (up to ₹25,000).
Important before applying
NHM operates on Annual Action Plans submitted by state governments — not all components are available in all states every year. The horticulture development officer at your district level is the key contact.
